Overview

When you hear the term "xeriscaping", do you think rock gardens and Yucca plants? If so, the City of Hays has established demonstration gardens to help sway your impressions of this water-conserving, drought-resistant landscape design. We've established three locations in town for demonstration gardens using a variety of native species and non-native species suitable to our climate and rainfall. Proper plant selection can reduce water use and protect water quality, all while providing an eye catching display of color and variety.

Signs at the demonstration gardens indicate the different plant varieties, so bring a notepad, write down your favorites, and take them to your local garden center for selection.
