Planning Commission

Meetings: 3rd Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m., City Commission Chambers in City Hall, 1507 Main Street.

The Hays Area Planning Commission, under the Unified Development Code and the Comprehensive Plan, control and restrict the use of land; regulate and restrict the location of trades, industries, and the location of buildings designed for specified uses; regulate and limit the height and bulk of buildings, regulate and limit the intensity of the use of lots, regulate and determine the area of yards and other open spaces surrounding buildings; and regulate and restrict the density of population. The area of jurisdiction of the Hays Area Planning Commission shall include that area within the corporate limits of the City of Hays and that area identified as the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of the City of Hays, Kansas.

Members

The Hays Area Planning Commission consists of seven (7) voting members appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Commission, for terms of three (3) years each. All Hays Area Planning Commission members shall reside within the City of Hays' planning area, and two (2) members shall reside outside the corporate limits within the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of the City of Hays, Kansas. 


Request for Appointments

In making said appointments, the City shall obtain from the County Commission its requests for appointments of individuals who reside outside the corporate limits within the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) and, subject to the final statutory power of the Mayor to make said appointments, those recommendations shall be considered by the Mayor for said appointment. None of the members shall hold any other public offices in the City or County except that one member of the Planning Commission shall be a member of the Hays Area Board of Zoning Appeals.
