Compensation

This position's total compensation includes:

  • $52,000 base salary
  • Car Allowance (paid bi-weekly)
  • City Provided Cell Phone
  • Professional Memberships Paid
  • Conference Registrations and Travel Expenses Paid

Health & Dental Plans: Excellent health & dental plans are available for City Employees & their eligible family members. The City subsidizes most of the health insurance premium costs. Insurance starts the first of the month following employment. 

Pension Plan: The City is part of the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS). KPERS provides retirement, life insurance, & long term disability benefits. The employee’s contribution is currently 6% which is refundable with interest if an employee terminates prior to retirement. Employees may also purchase additional life insurance for themselves, spouse, &/or children through KPERS. Visit www.kpers.org for more information.

Holidays: The City celebrates 9 paid holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Friday After Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Christmas Eve.

Paid Time Off (PTO): The City of Hays uses a paid time off system of leave. This should be used for vacation, sick leave, bereavement leave, doctor’s appointments, children’s events, etc. Employees are given 40 hours upfront and accrue additional leave after 3 months of employment. 

Short Term Disability: The City of Hays offers short term disability insurance as a no cost benefit. Short Term Disability provides employees with 70% of their base wages while unable to work, due to eligible medical conditions, for up to six months following a 14-day waiting period.

Employee Assistance Program: Confidential counseling services are provided free of charge to employees and their immediate family. The website is also full of useful articles and legal documents.

AFLAC: Employees may elect optional AFLAC plan including: Accident, Cancer, Hospital, and Critical Care.

Professional Organizations: The City of Hays will pay for membership of approved professional organization as well as travel for training/conferences.

Alternative Work Schedule: The office hours of the City of Hays are 7:30—5:30 Monday through Thursday and 7:30—11:30 on Fridays. Employees have the ability, with approval, to set their own hours that work best for their work/life balance.
