SUBJECT: Domestic Violence Death Investigation

On September 19, 2022, at 9:55pm, the Hays Police Department Communication Center received a report of an unresponsive male inside a house in the 200 blk of West 6th Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. The Hays Police Department and Ellis County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene. Officers arrived on scene and found a 54 year old male lying inside a residence. The man was deceased and appeared to have been beaten. The Ellis County Coroner’s Office was notified and also responded to the scene. 

Monte J. Wilson (10/13/1967) was also located inside the residence. Wilson has been arrested for Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery. He is currently being held in the Ellis County Jail. The Hays Police Department is not aware of any other threats to the community reference this disturbance. Wilson is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. 

This death remains under investigation by the Ellis County Coroner’s Office, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the Hays Police Department.
