SUBJECT: Fatality Structure Fire

On September 21, 2022, at 3:01pm, the Hays Emergency Communication Center received a report of a structure fire in the 100 blk of West 37th Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. The Hays Fire Department along with the Ellis County Fire Department, Ellis County Emergency Medical Services, and the Hays Police Department were dispatched to the scene. While enroute to the scene it was reported that a child was trapped inside the house. Rescue efforts were initiated, and firefighters were able to locate and remove the child from the home. The child was transported to Hays Medical Center by ECEMS. It is with a heavy heart that we report that the child later died from injuries caused by the fire.
